Capture your summer sparkle with these bright, zesty lemon sugar cookies. Bursting with fresh lemon flavor and a soft, buttery texture, they're the perfect sunny treat to enjoy on a warm day. Roll them in sugar for a sweet crunch.


  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

For Decorating:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar OR 1/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling


Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Whisk together.

In a mixer bowl, cream the butter, 1 tbsp brown sugar, and 3/4 cup white sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, lemon zest and vanilla and beat until combined.

Slowly add in the dry ingredients and beat until just combined. Do not overmix.

Scoop dough into balls and roll in remaining sugar.

Bake for 9-11 minutes.
